A storefront LED message sign is connected to the internet and assigned a local phone number. Passerby text the sign their message which is displayed automatically a few seconds later, overwriting the previous message.
This project repurposes the typical eye-catching storefront display for community use, allowing the sign and the storefront itself to become disconnected from its original commercial initiative. Additionally, the sign explores issues of free speech by giving individuals an uncensored and instan- taneous public venue to express their ideas. As each new message immediately over- writes the old, the sign offers the community a forum for an impartial and spontaneous public discussion.
