Date/Time Box (Work in Progress) (2006)
Wood, paper, found machinery, custom electronic components, misc. hardware.
(8 x 12 x 32 inches)
With the help of an infrared motion sensor, this box records the date and time of all activity that takes place in its immediate vicinity. Each record is printed onto a strip of paper which is then spooled out the front of the machine. As more events are recorded, the strip of paper grows longer and longer, piling underneath the box. The box literally keeps a concrete record of its own past. This past, though perhaps only intermittently eventful, is thus known to the viewer, through analysis of the given timeline.
